INGREDIENTS TO MAKE SLOW COOKER MASHED POTATOES

  • Russet potatoes: you can leave the skin on or off in this recipe. You can also use Yukon Gold Potatoes or a combination of both!
  • Chicken broth: adds additional flavor
  • Water: makes the potatoes tender
  • Butter: you can’t have mashed potatoes without butter!
  • Milk: adds flavor and makes the mashed potatoes creamy!
  • Heavy whipping cream: adds a hint of richness in flavor and adds to the creaminess. You could also use non-fat plain Greek yogurt if you want to make these healthier mashed potatoes
  • Salt + pepper: important for flavor
  • Chives; optional

HOW TO MAKE THE BEST SLOW COOKER MASHED POTATOES

  1. Place the potatoes, chicken broth and water into a 6 qt. slow cooker or crock pot. Season with salt and pepper, mix together and cover with a lid.
  2. Cook on HIGH setting for 3-4 hours or LOW setting for 7-8 hours, until the potatoes are very tender.
  3. Mash the potatoes together with a potato mashed or electric mixer until smooth. Stir in the milk, cream and butter until well combined and creamy. Add more milk if desired and taste for salt. Sprinkle chives on top and serve. Enjoy!

TIPS FOR MAKING THE BEST SLOW COOKER MASHED POTATOES

  • Make sure you season your potatoes and taste them after they are cooked to ensure they are perfectly seasoned.
  • I love serving my mashed potatoes with a few generous pats of butter on top and a sprinkle of chives.
  • To make these extra fluffy, before serving the mashed potatoes use a fork to fluff them up.

MAKE-AHEAD

Once your mashed potatoes are done cooking, you can leave them in the slow cooker or crock pot on warm for up to 3 to 4 hours before serving. Make sure to stir the mashed potatoes occasionally and add more milk to keep them creamy.

LEFTOVERS

You can store leftover mashed potatoes in an airtight container for up to 4 days. When ready to reheat, simply microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minutes depending on your microwave. You may want to add a pat of butter and a splash of milk to make them creamy and soft.
