The base of these truffles are made with a Golden Oreo filling that has a similar consistency of a classic truffle. The truffles are coated in white chocolate that adds extra richness. The sprinkles add color and fun to this recipe- you can use any colors for any occasion or holiday. Rainbow sprinkles would be perfect for a birthday celebration!
KEY INGREDIENTS
Golden Oreos: the key ingredient to this Sugar Cookie Truffle Recipe! The Oreo frosting is included in this recipe for extra deliciousness
Cream cheese: added to bind the mixture together and makes them rich and creamy like a truffle
Vanilla extract: adds a bit of flavor
Coconut oil: used to melt the white chocolate
White chocolate: this makes the truffles extra decadent. You can also use milk chocolate if you prefer- the flavor will be slightly different but still delectable
Sprinkles: use any colors you want for any holiday or occasion!
HOW TO MAKE SUGAR COOKIE TRUFFLES
MAKE TRUFFLE FILLING. In a large food processor, process the Oreos until they are a sand-like consistency. Add in cream cheese and vanilla extract and pulse until all ingredients are combined. Alternatively, if you don’t have a food processor you could crush the cookies into crumbs and mix everything in a large bowl with a wooden spoon OR you could also use an electric hand mixer.
FORM TRUFFLES & CHILL. Once the mixture has formed into a cookie dough consistency use a small cookie scoop and form the truffle mixture into small balls. Place on the baking sheet and freeze for 20 minutes or until the balls are firm and chilled.
MELT CHOCOLATE. Once the truffles are chilled, in a microwavable safe mixing bowl, mix the coconut oil with white chocolate chips and heat in 30 second intervals, stirring in between until chocolate is melted.
COAT & ADD SPRINKLES. Dip the truffles in the melted chocolate and place back on the cookie sheet. Decorate with sprinkles immediately. Once all of the truffles are done, place them back in the freezer to harden for 10 more minutes.
RECIPE TIPS & VARIATIONS
Be sure not to freeze the truffles completely. If you freeze the truffles completely it could cause the chocolate to crack. They will still taste perfectly fine but the chocolate coating won’t be as smooth and perfect looking.
When dunking the truffles in the melted chocolate, use a fork and scrape off the excess chocolate on the side of the bowl so you don’t get a ton of leftover chocolate on the bottom of your truffles.
Swap the Golden Oreos for regular Oreos to make Oreo Truffles.
Make these cookie truffles all year round by using other sprinkles for any occasion or holiday. Use red and green sprinkles for Christmas, rainbow sprinkles for a celebration, or pink and blue for a baby shower reveal!
LEFTOVERS & STORAGE
To-store: place truffles in an airtight container and place in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Make-ahead: you can easily make these a day ahead if you are making these for a party. Just keep them refrigerated until ready to serve.
To-freeze: place truffles in a large ziplock bag or in an airtight container. When ready to eat, remove from the freezer and let them defrost in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours. They will last up to 1 month in the freezer.
