Dunkaroo Dip

This homemade Dunkaroo Dip recipe is an easy dessert dip your whole family will love. Do you remember your favorite childhood snacks? This dip was mine! If you grew up in and 90s and early 2000s you’ll love this nostalgic treat because Dunkaroos was the most popular snack ever!

I remember eating the original Dunkaroos in my school lunches, after school snacks, and little play dates with friends. We were all obsessed with them because how could you not love a mini snack-sized cookies and frosting treat? I would get so excited to rip the wrapper off and dunk a cookie in the deliciously sweet frosting dip..hence the name “Dunkaroos”!

This Dunkaroo Dip aka Funfetti Dip (since it’s make with a box of funfetti cake mix) tastes just like the famous frosting dip but even better because it’s homemade. This is the perfect dip to serve at a birthday party, baby shower, snack, or dessert. I can guarantee everyone will love this dip and its perfect for all occasions!

Another one of my favorite savory nostalgic treats to make is my Homemade Bagel Bites! We just couldn’t get enough of that fun snack as a kid.

Ingredients

Cool whip: I prefer to use lite or non-fat cool whip to keep this dip on the lighter side. Be sure the cool whip is defrosted.

Funfetti cake mix: the key ingredient that gives this dip a frosting and funfetti cake flavor.

Vanilla yogurt: I prefer to use vanilla Greek yogurt because of the consistency but any vanilla flavored yogurt will work. Plain yogurt will also work just add 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract.

Animal crackers: for dipping. See below for other dipping ideas.

Colorful sprinkles: I used rainbow sprinkles but you can use any colors you want.

How To Make Dunkaroo Dip

First, you want to heat treat the cake mix (instructions on how to heat treat the cake mix is in the recipe card). Then, combine all of the ingredients in a large bowl and mix with a whisk or wooden spoon. Alternatively, you can also beat together with an electric mixer.

Be sure to mix until there are no lumps in the mix. Place in a serving bowl and top with extra sprinkles (totally optional but it makes this dip more fun). Let the dip chill in the refrigerator for at least 20 minutes.

Serve chilled dip with animal crackers or your favorite dippers. You can eat this dip at room temperature but I highly recommend chilling it to set for best results.

Recipe Tips & Variations

Cake mix: you can use white cake mix instead of funetti cake mix. Be sure to add in 1/2 cup of sprinkles to the dip.

Chocolate Dunkaroo Dip: use chocolate cake mix to make this dip into a chocolate flavored dunkaroo dip.

Sprinkles: use your favorite sprinkles or you can completely omit the sprinkles to make this a Cake Mix Dip. Use holiday themed sprinkles for different holidays like pastel sprinkles to make an Easter Dunkaroo Dip or red and green sprinkles to make a Christmas Dunkaroo Dip.

How To Heat Treat The Cake Mix

Heating the cake mix will kill any harmful bacteria or present in the raw flour if theres any. To make cake mix safe to eat, place on a baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees F for about 5-10 minutes.

Just be sure it doesn’t burn. You can also microwave the cake mix which would be the quickest and easiest way. Place the cake mix in a bowl and heat on high for 20-45 seconds. Each microwave is different, so please be mindful of the temperature.

    1. Hi Dayna, I have not had any issues with eating raw cake mix, especially since there isn’t any raw eggs in this recipe. This recipe is large enough for 8 servings and is not meant to be eaten as one serving. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Thank you, Kathryn

      1. Eating raw flour can be dangerous. Its not only the eggs that makes eating cake mix bad to eat but the actual flour. You can get e coli from eating uncooked/ treated flour

This looks like a great idea for a child’s birthday party. Using the Greek yogurt makes it a little healthier than the original version I ate back in the day! Thanks for the recipe.
