Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Portable: These can easily be transferred by placing them in an airtight container or platter covered with plastic wrap.

No-bake recipe: No need to turn on your ovens-all you need is a food processor to crush up the Oreos and a mixing bowl!

Fun for kids: Let the kids help you make this treat by having them crumble up the cake into small pieces, roll the truffle batter into balls, or add the sprinkles.

Make-ahead: You can easily make these a day ahead if you are making these for a party. Just keep them refrigerated until ready to serve.

Perfect for: Halloween parties, dessert platters, classroom parties, trick or treating bags, or any monster-themed party!

key ingredients

  • Oreos: Regular Oreos are best for this recipe! Be sure not to use the double stuf Oreos or Thin Oreos otherwise it will change the consistency of the truffles.
  • Cream cheese: Make sure to use full-fat not low fat. Full-fat cream cheese will give the best flavor and consistency. The cream cheese makes these extra decadent and creamy like a real truffle!
  • Food coloring gel: To make the monster colors. Feel free to switch up the colors.
  • Melted white chocolate: White candy melts, almond bark or white chocolate chips could be used. If you use white chocolate chips, I highly recommend adding coconut oil to the bowl before microwaving so it melts smoothly.
  • Halloween sprinkles: To make these little guys extra festive and fun.
  • Edible Candy Eyes: To make each spooky eyeball! These could be found at most grocery stores.

how to make Halloween oreo balls

Make truffle cookie base: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large food processor, process the Oreos until they are fine crumbs or a sand-like consistency. Add in cream cheese and pulse until all of the ingredients are combined. Scrape down the sides of the processor and pulse a few times more until a cookie dough has formed.

Form truffles and chill: Use a small cookie scoop or 2 tablespoons to form the cookie mixture into balls. Place on the baking sheet and freeze for 20 minutes until the balls are firm and chilled.

Melt chocolate in microwave: Once the truffles are chilled, in a microwavable safe bowl, add 12 ounces of chocolate and heat in 30 second intervals, stirring in-between until chocolate has melted. Add in 3-4 drops of green food coloring and mix until desired color.

Dip the truffles in the melted chocolate: Use a fork and coat both sides. Scrape any excess chocolate off the sides of the bowl. Return the truffles to the baking sheet and let them sit for a few minutes, in the meantime, in a separate microwavable safe bowl, add the remaining chocolate and heat in 30 second intervals, stirring in-between until chocolate has melted. Add in 3-4 drops of purple food coloring and mix until desired color.

Decorate truffles: Drizzle the top with purple chocolate (or remaining green chocolate, or both), add a candy eye or eyes to the center and sprinkle tops with Halloween sprinkles. Allow the chocolate to set for a few minutes and enjoy!

tips & variations

  • Mini Monster Truffles: Make the truffle balls smaller so you’ll yield about 30 truffles instead of 15.
  • Dipping the truffles: Be sure to use a fork to dip chilled truffle balls in the chocolate. This makes a perfect coating and be sure to let any excess chocolate run off the side of the bowl.
  • Make ahead: Make these truffles a day ahead and keep these stored in the fridge until ready to serve.
  • Chill truffles first: You must chill the Oreo truffle balls before dipping them in chocolate. Do not skip this step! If you don’t the balls may fall apart in the chocolate leaving you with a mess.
  • Make for any occasion: All you have to do is switch up the sprinkles and chocolate colors. Some other holidays you can make these for are Valentine’s Day, Easter, Fourth of July, birthdays and more!
  • Don’t freeze the truffles completely: If you freeze the truffles completely it could cause the chocolate to crack. They will still taste perfectly fine but the chocolate coating won’t be as smooth and perfect looking.
