apple crispy with ice cream

Fall is near I am ready for all of the Fall desserts like this Apple Cinnamon Crisp! This dessert is so delicious I crave it year round and luckily apples are always available so I can make this any time I want! This crisp is loaded with tender apples that are coated with cinnamon, nutmeg, honey, oats and melted butter. The apples are topped with a buttery oat mixture that’s lightly sweetened with brown sugar.

I love all things that are baked with apples, especially during the Fall. Like this Apple Cinnamon Oat Bread, Baked Pumpkin Spice Oatmeal, Apple Pomegranate Cobbler, and Caramel Apple Toffee Dip– which you HAVE to try!

Apple Cinnamon Crisp

This recipe is truly so easy to make! Our neighbors have an apple tree and gave us a generous bag of apples so the first thing I thought to make was Apple Crisp!! My absolute favorite way to enjoy this Apple Cinnamon Crisp is with a giant scoop or two of vanilla ice cream. If I have caramel sauce I usually drizzle that on top too.

This Apple Cinnamon Crisp:

  • Can be easily doubled if you want to make a larger batch
  • Is a crowd-pleaser and enjoyable year-round, not just during the Fall
  • Can be made ahead of time
  • Is low in sugar and you most likely already have these ingredients at home
  • Will make your home smell SO delicious when baking. You will LOVE the smell that fills your house, I promise!

steps to make apple crisp

APPLES

Any type of apples will work for this recipe! You can leave the skin on or remove the skin completely. If you do leave the skin on be sure to thoroughly wash your apples and remove any wax from the skin if you can. I like to peel my apples but I do leave a little skin on for flavor. I also prefer sweeter apples over sour but both will work great. It’s totally your preference!

INGREDIENTS FOR APPLE CINNAMON CRISP

  • Apples
  • Butter
  • Flour
  • Lemon juice
  • Honey
  • Ground nutmeg
  • Ground cinnamon

HOW TO MAKE APPLE CINNAMON CRISP

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. In a large mixing bowl, combine chopped apples, melted butter, flour, lemon juice, melted honey, nutmeg and cinnamon. Stir to combine and transfer to a buttered or greased baking dish. I used a round baking dish but you can use a rectangle dish as well.
  2. In a separate mixing bowl, add all of the topping ingredients and using a pastry cutter or your hands combine until the crisp mixture resembles a pea-sized crumbs.
  3. Spread the oat mixture evenly over the apples and bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly. It’s best to serve warm with vanilla ice cream on top! Enjoy!

What a wonderful crust! The oatmeal topping giving the perfect contrast against the soft baked apples, and it has just the right balance of spice. Will definitely make all throughout the fall!

This was the first time I have made an apple crisp with oats. I normally make what in UK they call apple crumble which is without oats. This is far better. Loved the addition of honey which was also new to me! A new family favourite!
