Blender Salsa
Everyone needs a go-to easy salsa recipe. If you’re a huge chips and salsa fan (like us) and looking for the best tasting salsa recipe.. look no further. This Homemade Salsa takes less than 5 minutes to make and tastes better than the kind from your favorite Mexican restaurant..guaranteed!
This easy restaurant-style blender salsa is perfect to serve with your favorite tortilla chips, on taco Tuesday, top it on nachos, enchiladas, taquitos, or quesadillas. You can enjoy it as a quick snack or appetizer on game days or whenever you’re craving chips and a bowl of salsa. This will satisfy all of your cravings.
We make this salsa in the blender so it’s super quick to make, full of fresh flavors, and it’s healthy. We use canned tomatoes so this can be made all year round since we don’t need to rely on ripe roma tomatoes.
My favorite part about this Blender Salsa is it tastes even better than my favorite salsa from our local Mexican restaurant. This salsa can be customized to your preference whether you want more or less heat. Serve this salsa with my fresh pico de gallo and guacamole for the best appetizer or snack.
Why You’ll Love This blender salsa
key ingredients
- Red onion: You could also use a yellow onion. A white onion will be too strong.
- Jalapeños: Fresh is best when it comes to jalapeños since the jarred stuff usually contains vinegar.
- Fresh cilantro: Adds tons of flavor, be sure not to omit this one.
- Garlic: Be sure to use fresh garlic from a bulb as jarred garlic won’t taste the same.
- Diced tomatoes: We use canned tomatoes instead of fresh tomatoes for this recipe to provide the best flavors.
- Green chilies: Adds a tangy flavor.
how to make blender salsa
Pulse garlic and cilantro: Place garlic and cilantro into a high speed blender. Pulse a few times until finely chopped.
Add remainder ingredients: Add drained tomatoes and green chiles to the blender and blend for a few seconds just until blended together. Be careful not over mix as your salsa could result in being too watery instead of a chunky salsa. Serve with your favorite chips and enjoy!
RECIPE TIPS
- Spicy salsa: Make this salsa extra spicy by leaving the seeds in the jalapeños. This will add tons of heat. You can also add more jalapeños then what the recipe calls for. Other ingredients to add to make this extra spicy is Serrano peppers, black pepper, red chili flakes, and chili powder.
- For a chunkier salsa: Reduce the blending time and only give it a few quick pulses so it gets even more chunkier and thicker.
- Let the flavors rest: For best results and the most flavor, let the salsa sit in the refrigerator for a least an hour to overnight so the flavors can blend together.
- Don’t over blend: You want to be able to see all all of the colors of the ingredient in the salsa. It only takes a few seconds to over blend the salsa so be careful.
- Citrus flavor: Add a fresh lime juice or lemon juice to the salsa to add a fresh citrus flavor.
- Healthy snack: Serve this salsa with fresh cucumber slices, carrot sticks and bell peppers for a satisfying low-carb, healthy snack.
how to make salsa without a blender
Even though this recipe is called Blender Salsa, you can still make this recipe by using a food processor. Follow the same steps as you would in a blender and you’ll have delicious salsa in minutes!
how long does homemade salsa last?
Homemade Salsa lasts well and for 2 weeks when stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. This recipe makes a relatively big batch so we usually always have leftovers which I love. Salsa goes with just about anything so it doesn’t go to waste.
You could also freeze the salsa for up to 3 months in a freezer-safe container. Be sure to give the salsa a good stir before serving it again.
Please note that when it thaws, it will have excess liquid so you can thicken it up by simmering the salsa on the stove and adding a little tomato paste if you wish.

I love the idea of using canned green chiles in the salsa. I make this a lot but have not used green chiles. I have a can right now. Will be making it for dinner tonight to serve with enchiladas.
