key ingredients

  • Chex cereal: You can use either corn or rice Chex cereal as they both work great for this recipe.
  • Pretzels: I like to use the regular mini twist sized pretzels but you can also use pretzel sticks, pretzel snaps, pretzel rounds, or any other shape.
  • Lucky Charms: Adds crunchy cereal plus those iconic marshmallow “charms” for the sweetest, most colorful bites.
  • White chocolate chips: You can also use any type of candy melts or almond bark.
  • Green M&M’s: To make this sweet treat extra festive for St. Patrick’s Day.

how to make lucky charms mix

Combine cereal mixture: In a large bowl, add in the Chex cereal, Lucky Charms cereal and pretzels. Stir to combine.

Melt chocolate: In a separate microwave safe bowl, melt white chocolate chips and coconut oil in 30 second intervals until melted and smooth. Be sure not to over heat the chocolate otherwise it will become too thick and burn.

Add the melted chocolate to dry mixture: Gently stir to coat evenly.

Add M&M’s: Spoon the coated mixture in an even layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Immediately top with green M&Ms.

Cool and enjoy! Let the mixture cool completely so the chocolate coating hardens or place in the refrigerator if you want to speed up the process. Once set, break apart to serve and enjoy! Store Lucky Charms snack mix in an airtight container or ziplock bag for up to 2 weeks.

tips & variations

  • Switch out the cereals: For different flavors since this no-bake snack mix is so versatile. Other cereals to add are Fruit Loops, Captn Crunch, Fruity Pebbles, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cookie Crisp, Cocoa Puffs, and Honey Nut Cheerios. Any of your favorites will work!
  • Double the recipe: Perfect if you are needing to bring treats to a party or event.
  • Chocolate version: Use milk or dark chocolate and a pinch of sea salt.
  • Peanut butter drizzle: Mix creamy peanut butter into melted chocolate or drizzle on top.
  • More of a “trail mix” vibe: Add almonds, peanuts, cashews, raisins or sunflower seeds.
  • Use a big bowl: The bigger the bowl, the easier it is to toss everything without crushing the cereal.
  • For treat bags: Let it set, break into clusters, then add a few extra M&M’s or charms on top of each bag for an extra pretty look.
  • St. Patrick’s Day festive: Use green M&M’s, shamrock sprinkles, and add gold sugar pearls or “pot of gold” sprinkles.

Add-Ins

  • Chocolate chips: Milk chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, chocolate chunks, or mini chocolate chips make great additions and a chocolatey flavor.
  • Sprinkles: Adds fun and color!
  • Bugles: Adds a savory flavor and so fun for coating.
  • Popcorn: Adds a crunchy texture, use buttered or plain.
  • Golden Oreo pieces: Or regular or mini Oreos if you prefer a chocolate flavor.
  • Cheerios: Plain or honey nut make great options.
  • Graham cracker pieces: For extra crunch, you could also use Golden Grahams cereal.

leftovers & storage

This Lucky Charms Snack Mix will last for up to 1-2 weeks when stored in an airtight container or large ziplock bag in a cool area (the kitchen counter is a perfect place!). Make sure the white chocolate is fully hardened before storing so the mix stays crunchy and doesn’t clump.

I don’t recommend freezing as cereal can lose its crunch as it thaws.
