Why You’ll Love These Easter pudding cups
key ingredients
- Instant pudding mix: Could be found at just about all grocery stores in the baking section. We love the Banana Cream or Vanilla flavor for the yellow color. You’ll also need 3 cups of milk to make the pudding.
- Whipped cream: Such as Cool Whip, whipped cream, or homemade whipped cream.
- Vanilla Wafer Cookies: Used to make the edible grass. We use Nilla Wafers but you could also use plain sugar or butter cookies, or Golden Oreos. You could also use shredded coconut if you prefer.
- Easter candy: Peeps Chicks (or marshmallow bunnies) and Cadbury candy Eggs are perfect for these Easter Pudding Cups.
how to make easter pudding cups
Make pudding: In a large mixing bowl, combine pudding mix and milk. Stir for at least 2 minutes, or until the pudding becomes thickened. Cover bowl with foil or plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator.
Make cookie crumbs: Place the vanilla wafer cookies in a large ziplock bag. Use a rolling pin to crush the cookies until they become crumbs.
Color cookie crumbs: Place 1/3 of the crumbs into a bowl with a few drops of green food coloring. Use more or less coloring gel depending on how green you want the crumbs to be.
Assemble pudding cups: To assemble pudding cups, add 1-2 tablespoons of the regular cookie crumbs (uncolored crumbs) to the bottom of each plastic cup. Then add 1/4 cup of pudding to each cup, repeat the cookie crumb layer, then dollop or swirl whipped cream on top of each cup. Sprinkle 1-2 tablespoons of the green cookie crumbs on top of the whipped cream and lastly, place 1 Peep and 3 chocolate eggs on top. Serve cold and enjoy immediately or keep refrigerated until ready to serve.
recipe tips & variations
- Double the recipe: This recipe makes 6 pudding cups so if youāre wanting to bring these to a party or serve them as a school treat, simply double the recipe (you can easily do this in the recipe card).
- Pudding: I love sticking to the yellow pastel colors such as banana cream and vanilla pudding flavors. You can use any such as butterscotch, lemon, white chocolate, pistachio, or chocolate.
- Make pudding the day ahead: If you want your pudding to be extra cold, make it a few hours or even the day before. This will also allow the pudding to thicken.
- Easter Dirt Cups: Swap the Banana Cream or vanilla pudding for chocolate pudding and use Oreo cookies to make Oreo crumbs or chocolate graham crackers instead of Nilla wafers. If you love dirt cups, try my Oreo Dirt Cake!
- Candy alternatives: Feel free to use chocolate bunnies, jelly beans, your favorite Easter candy, Easter themed M&Mās, candy Easter eggs, and Robin Eggs.
- Green grass: If you didn’t have green food coloring gel you could use green icing or green sprinkles instead.
leftovers & storage
Store any leftovers in a large airtight container or cover cups with plastic wrap and refrigerator for up to 5 days. The cookie crumbs and candies on top will get soft from the whipped cream.
I do not recommend freezing these Peeps Pudding Cups as they will not freeze well.
