Why You’ll Love This cookies and cream pie
key ingredients
- Oreos: You’ll need whole Oreos for Oreo Pie Crust and cookie crumbs for the filling and top garnish the pie. Use both large and small sized cookie crumbs. More is always better 🙂 You could also use any type of chocolate sandwich cookies, Joe-Joes’s from Trader Joe’s are a great alternative. Feel free to use a store-bought Oreo crust but hoemade is just so much better!
- Melted butter: You can use salted or unsalted butter, it’s used to bind the crust together.
- Cream cheese: We use a whole brick of cream cheese that’s softened at room temperature so it makes a smooth filling. Full fat cream cheese works best but you could also use low-fat.
- Cool Whip: Makes the pie filling light and fluffy. You can also use lite Cool Whip for a low-fat alternative.
- Vanilla extract: Adds a warm flavor.
- Powdered sugar: Adds sweetness and incorporates into the filling much better than granulated sugar.
how to make No Bake Oreo Pie
Make Oreo crust: Add Oreo cookies to a food processor and grind until coarse. Add melted butter and grind again until combined and a sand like consistency or fine crumbs.
Press crust onto pie pan: Add crumbs to a pie pan and press with your fingers until the crumbs are evenly spread out. Place in the refrigerator while you make the cream cheese filling.
Make cream cheese mixture: In a large bowl, beat together the cream cheese with an electric mixer for a minute, then add the powdered sugar and vanilla.
Add in Cool Whip: Mix until smooth and incorporated.
Fold in Oreo cookie pieces: Mix until evenly combined.
Assemble pie: Pour the Oreo filling into the Oreo crusted 9-inch pie plate and smooth the top out with a rubber spatula in an even layer. Place in the refrigerator to chill and set for at least 2 hours to overnight. When ready to serve, garnish with whipped cream or your favorite whipped topping and more Oreos (optional). Enjoy!
variations
- Chocolatey twist: Drizzle chocolate on top or fold in chocolate chips to the filling.
- Crust alternative: Instead of making your own crust, use a store bought Oreo cookie crust. You can also make a cookie crust with any flavor of Oreos, graham crackers, Nilla Wafers, sugar cookies, or shortbread cookies.
- Sprinkles: Add sprinkles to make this pie extra fun and colorful, or if you’re celebrating a birthday or celebration.
- Gluten-free pie: Use gluten free Oreos instead of regular Oreo cookies.
- Cookie flavor: Use your favorite Oreo cookie flavor, this pie can be customized to your liking and favorite flavors. Some ideas are Peanut Butter Oreos, Golden Oreo, Birthday Cake, Red Velvet, and Mint Creme.
HOW TO CRUSH OREO COOKIES
Simply place the Oreo cookies in a large zip-lock bag and roll them with a rolling pin. You can also put the Oreo cookies in a food processor and pulse a few times just until the cookies are coarse or a sand like consistency.
SUGGESTIONS FOR HOW TO SERVE a no bake PIE
This Oreo Cream Pie recipe is best served chilled right from the fridge. Enjoy this dessert with a swirls of whipped cream and more crushed Oreo cookies on top if you prefer.
tips
- Long freeze time: Let the no bake pie sit in the refrigerator overnight to be sure it is set.
- If you do not have a food processor: Crush the Oreo by sealing them in an airtight bag and smashing them with a rolling pin or another hard object.
- Room temperature cream cheese: It’s extremely important that the cream cheese is at room temperature and soft enough to blend together smoothly to create an extra creamy texture.
- Slicing the pie: Be sure to use a sharp knife to cut the pie to get clean slices. It also helps if you place the knife in warm water for a minute before cutting.
leftovers & storage
Keep the pie covered with plastic wrap or in an airtight container, and store in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days.
To freeze, cover pie tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Then store in the freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before enjoying chilled.
