Christmas frosting board

This Christmas Frosting Board (also known as Dessert Charcuterie Board) will be your new favorite holiday dessert! It’s easy, quick to make and everyone will fall in love with this eye catching sweet treat this holiday season.

The best part is you can add your favorite Christmas cookies, sweet snacks, and fun treats to this Frosting Board, there is no wrong way to make this. This will satisfy any sweet tooth and is the perfect dessert for your next party.

If you’re wondering…what is a frosting board? A frosting board is inspired by trendy Butter Boards except we spread frosting on a board to create a sweeter version. We fill the board with frosting shaped like a Christmas tree (you can make any shape) and tons of sweet and salty dippers so theres plenty of options to chose from.

key ingredients

  • Frosting: We use vanilla frosting from a can but you can also use your favorite buttercream, cream cheese or vanilla frosting. Make your own from scratch or use a store-bought frosting .
  • Yellow M&Ms: To make the star. You could also use a yellow frosting or a star shaped cookie instead
  • Green food gel coloring: To make the Christmas tree color.
  • Hersheys chocolate bar: For the tree trunk. You could also use a mini candy bar such as a Snickers or Twix bar.
  • Dippers: Use your favorite dippers or snacks of your choice! Any kind of cookies, crackers, and fresh fruit would work.

how to make a frosting board

Make green frosting: In a medium or large mixing bowl, mix together frosting and green food coloring until desired shade of green is reached.

Chill frosting: Add frosting to a piping bag with a large star tip or decorative tip of your choice and chill in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes.

Pipe Christmas tree to board: When ready to style your board, start out by piping the outline of a Christmas tree onto the center of a large serving tray or cutting board. I love using a pretty serving tray to make this extra eye-catching. Fill the inside of the tree in with the frosting.

Decorate Christmas tree: Use the yellow M&Ms to create a star at the top of the board. Create a tree trunk with the Hershey bar pieces. Arrange the donuts, cookies, pretzels, graham crackers and any other dippers around the tree on the board. I used peppermints, white chocolate chips and powdered donuts to create a “snowy” ground underneath the tree.

Fill gaps: Fill in any open spaces of the board with M&M’s, gummy bears, or Christmas candy. Serve and enjoy!

Helpful tips & variations

  • Frosting: You can make your own from scratch or use store-bought frosting from a can.
  • Easy cleanup: Line the bottom of the board with parchment paper or wax paper for an easy cleanup.
  • Use your favorites: Add any of your favorite treats and dippers. I love using a variety of cookies and dippers but you can do whatever you want. Other dipper ideas are Nilla Wafer cookies, refrigerated cookies, pretzel rods, Ritz crackers, Teddy Grahams, pound cake pieces, chocolate sandwich cookies, chocolate or butterscotch chips, shortbread cookies, brownie bites, Sugar Cookies, and Gingerbread cookies.
  • Make any Christmas shape: Make a snowman with white frosting, a gingerbread man with brown frosting, or a snowflake with blue frosting.

leftovers & storage

The best way to enjoy this Frosting Board is when it’s assembled.

To store leftovers, place all the dippers and candies in separate ziplock baggies or airtight container and store at room temperature. Scrape the frosting from the board and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. The frosting will last up to 1 week.
