Fried Pickle Dip
This Fried Pickle Dip aka Pickle Ranch Dip will knock your socks off. The first bite is like an explosion of fried pickles but with a creamy base and crunchy texture from the chopped pickles and toasted panko breadcrumbs. Made with just the right amount of tanginess and is perfect for serving at parties, as an appetizer, potlucks, or anytime you’re in the mood for fried pickles!
It makes the perfect pairing with crunchy and slightly salted potato chips but you can use any of your favorites. We top the dip with extra buttered breadcrumbs, more pickles, and fresh dill so every bite is going to be explosive!
You can feel good about this dip because there isn’t anything fried unlike the real ones. You can make this in less than 20 minutes and perfect to serve for just about any and all occasions (trust me, you’ll want to).

Why You’ll Love This Recipe
key dip ingredients
- Cream cheese: Used to make the base of the dip. It adds richness, flavor and a creamy element. I prefer using full fat cream cheese for extra creamy goodness.
- Sour cream: This makes the dip extremely creamy. You could use low-fat cream cheese for a healthier alternative. You could also sub the sour cream for plain Greek yogurt.
- Seasonings: Ranch seasoning, salt and black pepper.
- Chopped dill pickles: You can use your favorite kind of pickles. I used pickle chips but you could also use pickle spears.
- Panko bread crumbs: These breadcrumbs work the best as apposed to regular breadcrumbs because of the light, crispy, and crunchy texture. They also don’t have much flavor so the butter gets absorbs and creates a delicious buttery flavor.
- Dill pickle juice: Makes this an extra tangy dip! A little goes a long way.
- Fresh herbs: To garnish the dip. I love using fresh dill, fresh chives, or fresh green onions on top of the dip.
how to make fried pickle dip
Toast buttered breadcrumbs: In a frying pan on medium heat, melt butter. Add crispy panko breadcrumbs and toast for a few minutes until all coated and the breadcrumbs turn a light golden brown. Remove from heat and transfer the buttered breadcrumbs to a dish lined with a paper towel.
Make creamy ranch base: In a large or medium bowl, mix together the sour cream, cream cheese, pickle juice, salt, pepper, and ranch seasoning. Mix with a fork or electric hand mixer until well combined and smooth.
Add pickles and breadcrumbs: Fold in the pickles and toasted breadcrumbs (reserve 2 tablespoons of pickles and breadcrumbs for the topping). Mix. until combined.
Serve and enjoy: Transfer the dip to a bowl or serving plate and top with remaining breadcrumbs and pickles and garnish with fresh dill, green onions, chives, or dried dill (optional).
recipe variations & pro tips
- Double the recipe: Perfect to feed a large crowd or for a large party.
- Low carb dish: Make this into a low carb snack by dipping your favorite fresh vegetables in this dip.
- Softened cream cheese: This is key for an extra creamy dip! For best results, let the cream cheese sit out on the counter for a few hours before making the dip or until it’s room tempeerature. It should be soft enough that you could blend the dip with a fork.
- Add protein: Make this dip protein packed and hearty by adding chopped chicken breast to the mixture.
- Add spice: Add a little heat by adding a few splashes of your favorite hot sauce or red pepper flakes. You could also use spicy dill pickles.
- Sweeter dip: If you want this dip on the sweeter side, use bread and butter pickles instead of dill pickles. They don’t have as much of a tangy flavor and theres added sugar in the pickle brine.
what to serve with fried pickle dip
Serve this with your favorite dippers or crackers such as:
- Ritz crackers
- Potato chips
- Pita chips
- Tortilla chips
- Pretzels
- Wheat Thins
- Toasted baguette slices
- Bread pieces
- Fresh veggies: Make this a low-carb snack by serving it with cucumber slices, carrot sticks, sliced bell peppers celery sticks, or endive.
leftovers & storage
The great news is this dip will last about one week when in an airtight container in the refrigerator. You could also cover the dish with plastic wrap or aluminum foil.
You may need to give the dip a stir if any excess moisture appears at the top or pat it away with a paper towel, and it will taste just as delicious as I did the first day you made it. Having dip handy in the fridge at all times is always a good idea!
how to freeze dill pickle dip
This dip will last in the freezer for up to 3 months when covered completely with plastic wrap, aluminum foil and then plastic wrap again. I would also store this dip in a disposable pan. When ready to eat, defrost completely.
