Chocolate Chip Cookie Skillet

A giant chocolate chip cookie baked in a skillet is the best way to enjoy a cookie! This Cookie Skillet Recipe requires basic pantry ingredients and is perfect for feeding a crowd as it goes straight from the oven to the table.

If you’ve ever had a pizookie, this tastes like it except better because it’s made from scratch. We add M&Ms to the cookie dough for a colorful mix but you can add your favorite cookie mix-ins and toppings to customize your skillet cookie.

Top the warm cookie with scoops of vanilla ice cream to make it extra indulgent. My husband and I used to order a cookie skillet from a restaurant in Carmel, CA and I can honestly say this version is so much better.

Add your favorite cookie toppings and mix-ins to make this easy dessert customizable.

It’s restaurant-worthy and tastes so gourmet but it’s so simple and easy to make.

key ingredients

  • All-purpose flour: Spoon and level the flour when measuring it. Be sure not to scoop it out of the bag using the measuring cup. This way, you won’t accidentally measure out too much.
  • Baking soda: Used as a leavening agent.
  • Softened butter: I used salted butter so you don’t have to add salt but you can also use unsalted butter, just add 1/4 teaspoon of salt in the recipe. It’s best if the butter is at room temperature and slightly softened.
  • Sugar: We use both granulated white sugar and light or dark brown sugar to add the perfect amount of sweetness. Brown sugar will make a chewier giant cookie which is what we want for this recipe.
  • Eggs: You’ll need two large eggs at room temperature.
  • Vanilla extract: Adds warm flavor and enhances the flavors. I use vanilla bean paste for more flavor.
  • Chocolate chips: I love using regular semi-sweet chocolate chips or mini chocolate chips but you could also use chocolate chunks, dark chocolate chips, white chocolate chocolate chips, or chop up a chocolate bar.
  • M&Ms: To add fun and color!

Add chocolate and chocolate candies: Stir in chocolate chips and M&Ms until evenly combined into the cookie dough.

Bake cookie skillet: Spoon the batter into the prepared skillet and press down with spatula in an even layer. Top with more chocolate chips and M&Ms. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is a light golden brown.

Cool and enjoy: Let the cookie skillet cool for a few minutes and then top with ice cream and toppings. Scoop or cut into slices and enjoy! *Be careful as the cast iron will be hot for a while after it comes out of the oven.

leftovers & storage

Freeze Dough Ahead of Time: This cookie dough freezes well so this is a great recipe to make ahead. To freeze unbaked dough, wrap dough ball in plastic wrap and then place the large ball of dough in a freezer bag. Or you can place the dough in an airtight container to freeze. Thaw completely before spooning into skillet.

To Store: Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Heat in the oven or microwave to warm.
