If you’re looking for the most indulgent chocolate chip cookie, these Triple Chocolate Chip Cookies are it and will be a chocolate lover’s dream cookie. Made with a classic chocolate chip cookie dough and then of course we add a variety of extra chocolate chips.
Technically, these cookies are loaded with 4 different chocolate chips- milk chocolate, white chocolate, peanut butter, and mini chocolate chips. They have a super soft and chewy center with slightly crisp edges. Made with only a few basic ingredients and can be made all year long, for all occasions.

These Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies, White Chocolate Cookies, Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies, and Giant Chocolate Chip Cookies are also chocolate chip favorites.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
key ingredients
- All-purpose flour: Spoon and level the flour when measuring it. Be sure not to scoop it out of the bag using the measuring cup. This way, you won’t accidentally measure out too much.
- Baking soda: Used as a leavening agent.
- Butter: I used salted butter so you don’t have to add salt but you can also use unsalted butter, just add 1/4 teaspoon of salt in the recipe. It’s best if the butter is at room temperature and slightly softened.
- Sugar: We use both granulated white sugar and light or dark brown sugar to add the perfect amount of sweetness. Brown sugar will make chewier cookies which is what we want for this recipe.
- Eggs: You’ll need one large egg and an egg yolk at room temperature. The extra egg yolk gives the cookies the perfect texture.
- Vanilla extract: Adds warm flavor and enhances the flavors. I love using vanilla bean paste for more flavor.
- Chocolate chips: Good quality chocolate chips are always recommended for the best flavor. I love using any and all kinds of chocolate chips. Use your favorites! Semi-sweet chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, peanut butter chips, mini chocolate chips, or chopped chocolate bar work well.
how to make Triple Chocolate Chip Cookies
Prepare cookie sheets: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
Cream butter and sugars: In a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer or in the bowl of a stand mixer with a paddle attachment, cream the butter and sugars together until light, fluffy and smooth.
Add in egg, egg yolk, and vanilla paste or extract: Continue to beat until combined.
Mix dry ingredients together: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda.
Add the flour mixture to the wet mixture: Mix until cookie dough barley starts to form.
Mix in chocolate chips: Add in all of the chocolate chips and continue mixing just until combined. Be sure not to over-mix.
Scoop cookies: Use a medium cookie scoop to form cookie dough balls (equivalent to about 2 tablespoons). Place on prepared cookie sheet place 2 inches apart. *I like to top my cookie dough balls with a few chocolate chips for a prettier look.
Bake cookies, cool and enjoy! Bake for 10-12 minutes, the edges should be a light golden brown. Let cookies cool for a few minutes, then cool completely on a wire cooling rack. Enjoy!
tips & variations
- Add Crunch: Add a handful of your favorite chopped nuts to the top. Chopped walnuts, pecans, and hazelnuts work well with this recipe.
- Peanut Butter: Give these a peanut butter flavor by adding 1/4 cup of peanut butter to the cookie dough. Incorporate the peanut butter with the wet ingredients.
- Birthday cookies: Add in rainbow sprinkles to the cookie dough mixture to make these for a birthday or celebration.
- Room Temperature ingredients: It’s always important that all of your ingredients are at room temperature. This will help the cookie mixture combine together more smoothly.
- Giant size: Use a large cookie scoop equivalent to 1/4 cup of cookie dough to make these jumbo. Bake for 12-15 minutes.
- Topping: Add a sprinkle of flaky sea salt to the tops to enhance the flavors.
make into triple chocolate chip cookie bars
Line a 9×13 cake pan with parchment paper. Prepare cookie dough batter according to the directions. Transfer the dough into the prepared pan and smooth out with a spatula.
Bake for 30-35 minutes or until top is very lightly browned and set. Cool fully before lighting parchment paper out of pan. Once cooled, cut into bars and enjoy!
leftovers & storage
Store cookies in an airtight container on the counter of a cool area for up to 1 week.
Freeze Dough Ahead of Time: This cookie dough freezes well so this is a great recipe to make ahead. To freeze unbaked dough, wrap dough ball in plastic wrap and then place the large ball of dough in a freezer bag. Or you can place the dough in an airtight container to freeze. Thaw completely before scooping into cookie dough balls.
How To Freeze Cookie Dough Balls: Freeze cookie dough balls by placing the balls of dough on a cookie sheet and flash freeze for 30 minutes or until hardened. Transfer the cookie dough balls to a large ziplock bag or airtight freezer-safe container and store in the freezer for up to 6 months.
