Dill oyster crackers
Who doesn’t love these little crackers? When I was little, I thought thesee plain crackers were the best especially when snacking on them at my Dad’s restaurant growing up because they are served on the side in a little plastic bag with clam chowder soup. I would always snack on them any time I was there.
These Dill Oyster Crackers are flavor packed with zesty and savory flavors and make a delicious snack. We coat these in olive oil and a few simple seasonings such as fresh dill, salt, pepper and garlic powder then bake it until perfectly crisp, crunchy and a little golden brown on top.
Use these Dill Oyster Crackers as a salad topping instead of croutons, add them to soups, pack them for a snack and add them to lunch boxes. They are always good to have around and they can last up to 1 month.
Other favorite savory snacks to make are my Homemade Cheese Crackers and Bold Chex Mix.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
key ingredients
- Oyster crackers: You can find these at just about any grocery store. They are the star ingredient! These are pretty plain crackers so adding all of the seasonings really helps add so much more flavor.
- Fresh dill: Fresh is best but you could also use dried dill weed if you need to.
- Olive oil: Helps coat the crackers with the seasonings.
- Seasonings: Salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
how to make seasoned oyster crackers
Prepare baking sheet: Preheat oven to 250 degrees F. Cover a large rimmed baking sheet, jelly roll pan, or baking pan with aluminum foil or parchment paper. This will make for an easy cleanup!
Mix oil and seasonings: In a medium or large bowl, combine the dill, garlic powder, salt, pepper and olive oil. Whisk until combined.
Coat crackers: Add the crackers and gently coat them in the olive oil mixture until seasoned on all sides.
Bake: Spread the crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes, then turn off the oven and continue to let them bake in the warm oven for another 20-30 minutes. They will turn a light golden brown.
Let cool and enjoy: Remove from the oven and place on a cooling wrack to cool. Store in an airtight contain and enjoy for up to a month!
Add ins
Feel free to add-in or swap the oyster crackers with some of these ingredients below.
- Goldfish or Cheez its: Adds a cheesy flavor to the mix. These are my favorite add-ins!
- Bugles: These are crunchy and similar to corn chips. They have a fun shape too.
- Popcorn: Pop your own or use store bought.
- Bagel chips or rye chips:Â These have so much crunch.Â
- Sesame chips: You can find these at most grocery stores in the snack isle.
- Baked chips: I prefer to use baked chips as opposed to regular potato chips so the mix doesn’t get too greasy. Any of your favorite flavors would work such as baked classic potato chips, Cheeto’s, barbecue, salt and vinegar, and sour cream and onion.
- Mini crackers: Some favorites are mini Ritz crackers, Mini Club crackers, or Mini Saltines.
pro tips & variations
- Use big baking sheets. You want to spread the mixture out as much as possible so they have plenty of room to bake to get extra crunchy.
- Ranch Dill Oyster Crackers: This is my favorite combo! Add a few tablespoons of ranch seasoning for a zesty flavor.
- Seasonings: Use taco seasoning, ranch seasoning, lemon pepper, onion powder, EBTB seasoning, Old Bay seasoning, or your favorite seasoning mix.
- Add spice: Add a few splashes of your few hot sauce or add red chili flakes.
- Cheese: Add shredded or grated parmesan cheese to get a cheesy flavor.
leftovers & storage
Store: Make sure the crackers are cooled completely. Store in an airtight container or large ziplock bag in a cool area at room temperature for up to 1 month. Fresh is always best if you want to enjoy the crunch and crispiness.
Freeze:Â Store crackers in a freezer bag or airtight container for up to 3 months. Thaw completely and enjoy.
