M&M Christmas Cookie Bars

One of my favorite things to make are these Christmas M&M Cookie Bars because they are so easy and they’re loaded with Christmas colors and cheer. They have soft and chewy centers with crispy edges and then topped with more white chocolate, M&Ms, and sprinkles.

Everyone will love this easy dessert because they taste like cake in an cookie bar form. Perfect for serving on cookie trays, gifting to friends, teachers, neighbors, and for leaving out on Santa’s cookie plate with a glass of milk :).

Holiday Cookie Bars made with cake mix could be customized for just about any holiday and occasion so make them all year long…not just the holiday season!

Made in One Bowl: All you need is a wooden spoon or electric mixer to mix these! No fancy kitchen gadgets are required in this recipe.

Key ingredients

  • Vanilla boxed cake mix: We use one box of white cake mix. Betty Crocker, Pillsbury and Duncan Hines are all great cake mix options.
  • Large eggs: Room temperature eggs are always best.
  • Butter: Alternatively, any type of neutral oil will work such as canola oil or vegetable oil.
  • Festive sprinkles: We add sprinkles for fun. You can use any sprinkle colors and use more or less than what the recipe calls for.
  • M&M candies: The star ingredient! I love using the festive red and green M&M colors to make these Christmas treats. You can also use Mini M&M candies if you prefer.
  • White chocolate chips: We add chocolate chips in the cookie batter and drizzle the baked cookie bars with melted chocolate. Double white chocolate goodness!

Melt white chocolate: After the cookie bars are cooled, heat the remaining white chocolate in the microwave in 30 second increments until melted.

Add toppings and let cool: Separate the cookie bars a little and then drizzle the white chocolate over the cookie dough bars using a fork. Top with remaining M&M candies, white chocolate chips, and sprinkles. Let cool completely.

leftovers & storage

To-store: Store these Christmas M&M Cookie Bars at room temperature in an air-tight container or large ziplock bag. You could also cover the a dish with plastic wrap. They will stay fresh for 7 days. They will still be ok to eat after 7 days but they may start to get crumbly and stale.

To-freeze: Allow the baked cookie bars to cool completely. Place the cut bars on a baking sheet in the freezer for 30 minutes to flash freeze or harden. Once hard, place the cookies in a large freezer bag or stack in an airtight container. Store for up to 3 months- when ready to serve, remove from the freezer to thaw until softened.
