Total Time25 minutes
Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American
Servings: 9 brownies

Equipment

  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoon
  • 8 x 8 baking dish

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup salted butter; melted
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large whole eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt **ONLY ADD IF YOU USE UNSALTED BUTTER

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 8 inch square baking dish or line with parchment paper and set aside.
  • In a medium mixing bowl combine melted butter, cocoa powder and sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved with a wooden spoon.
  • Add eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla and stir until combined.
  • Stir in the flour until all of the ingredients are incorporated. Be sure NOT to overmix, the batter will be slightly lumpy.
  • Spread the brownie batter on your baking dish and bake for approximately 20-22 minutes or until the center is slightly set.  Once the center is set let the brownies cool for 10 minutes before cutting. Cut into 9 large squares or 16 small squares.

Notes

  1. Metal pans bake much more quickly than glass baking pans. Each oven bakes a little differently, so start checking the brownies 5 minutes before the suggested bake time so you don't over bake the brownies.
  2. If you want your brownies to be extra rich and chocolatey, I recommend adding chocolate chips or chocolate chunk pieces.
  3. Don't over mix your brownie batter- this could change the texture of these chewy and fudge-like brownies. It's OK if the brownie batter has lumps.
  4. Place parchment paper on the bottom of your baking dish for extra easy cleanup and the brownies will lift right up.
  5. Use a sharp or plastic knife to cut the brownies for a clean cut.
  6. These brownies make the BEST BROWNIE SUNDAES. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to these and you will have a new favorite dessert- I promise. So good!!
