Icing
- 1 tablespoon butter melted
- 2-4 tablespoons milk
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2-3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tube red color gel
- green sanding sugar sprinkles
Prepare sugar cookie recipe according to the recipe and use a 3-4 inch Christmas tree cookie cutter to cut out cookies. Bake cookies and let cool completely.
Once the cookies are cooled, melt the butter in a medium microwave safe bowl and add 2 tablespoons of milk. Whisk together then add vanilla extract and one cup of powdered sugar at a time until smooth.
Add more powdered sugar to make icing thicker or add more milk to get icing thinner. The icing should be the same consistency as syrup.
Dip the cooled Christmas tree cookies individually into the icing and place on a cooling rack with the bottom lined with parchment paper. Be sure to give each cookie a few gentle taps on the side of the bowl to even the icing out. You could also spoon the icing on or use a piping bag.
Immediately top the cookies with the green sugar sprinkles before the icing sets. Finally, use the red gel to make 4-6 red lines on each tree. Let cookies sit for at least 3 hours or until the icing has hardened. Enjoy!
