Lucky Charms was one of my favorite cereals to eat as a kid (I loooved the rainbow marshmallows) and sugar cookies are always one of my favorites. This nostalgic dessert is the best of both worlds and is so fun to make! Lucky Charms Cookies are perfect for any occasion, but they are extra fun for St. Patrick’s day!

I made a half batch of my Soft Sugar Cookie recipe then topped the cookies with green frosting and Lucky Charms cereal. These cookies are loaded with texture because of the softness of the cookies and the crunchiness of the cereal.

You can make these cookies from start to finish in less than 30 minutes and you can even use premade cookies and frosting to save you more time. If you love Lucky Charms like I do, you’ll love my Lucky Charms Rice Krispie Treats

INGREDIENTS

Sugar cookies: you can use my homemade sugar cookie recipe, store-bought cookie dough, or premade sugar cookies. Whatever is best and easiest for you. My recipe is super easy and quick to make- FYI. 🙂

Frosting: same rule goes for the frosting. You can use my homemade frosting recipe in the recipe box, or use store-bought canned frosting.

Lucky Charms: this is the best part of the cookie! I love to crush some of the cereal for more texture. You can switch out the Lucky Charms for your favorite cereal! I listed some other delicious cereals below that would work perfectly.

HOW TO MAKE LUCKY CHARMS COOKIES

MIX DRY INGREDIENTS TOGETHER. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

MIX LIQUID INGREDIENTS TOGETHER. In a large bowl with an electric mixer, cream together the butter and sugar until fluffy- about 1 minute. Add the egg and vanilla extract and beat until combined.

ADD TOGETHER AND MIX. Slowly add the flour mixture and mix. Be sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl. Once a cookie dough is formed, use a small ice cream scoop and form the cookie dough balls.

BAKE. Place cookies on the cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake for 9-11 minutes until the cookies have lightly spread. Let the cookies cool for 5 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.

MAKE FROSTING. In a medium bowl, beat together the butter, vanilla extract, and milk until combined. Add in the powdered sugar and beat until combined and the frosting is smooth. If it seems too thick, add more milk. If it seems too watery, add more powdered sugar. Add green gel and beat until the color is evenly mixed in.

FROST COOKIES. Frost each cookie and top with a handful of Lucky Charms cereal. I recommend crushing a few pieces of the cereal to add to the top too for more texture. Enjoy!

TIPS

If you’re in a pinch and want to take a few shortcuts, use storebought sugar cookies and canned frosting.

Switch out the cereals for different flavors since this dessert is so versatile. Other cereals to add are Fruit Loops, Captn Crunch, Fruity Pebbles, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cookie Crisp, Cocoa Puffs, and Honey Nut Cheerios. Any of your favorites will work!

Easily double the recipe by following this exact Sugar Cookie recipe. It yields 30 cookies, so it’s perfect if you are needing to bring treats to a party or event.

If you’re looking for a fun and easy St. Patrick’s day gift for your kids, friends, family, classroom-room parties, or teachers, these are perfect for wrapping up in treat bags.

If you prefer to only use the marshmallows, you can omit the cereal pieces.

LEFTOVERS & STORAGE

Store leftover cookies in a cool area in an airtight container for up to 5-6 days. You can also store cookies in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.

I don’t recommend freezing frosted cookies, but you can freeze plain sugar cookies that have been baked and cooled. Store in a heavy-duty ziplock bag or airtight container. To thaw, let the cookies sit out for at least 20 minutes before frosting.
