I love adding cinnamon to the top and bottom of the biscuit dough because it gives these Apple Dumplings a little spice that pairs so perfectly with apples. Apples and cinnamon combined is one of my favorites, just like this Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal, Apple Cinnamon Crisp and my Apple Cinnamon Oat Bread

INGREDIENTS TO MAKE EASY APPLE DUMPLINGS

  • Refrigerated buttermilk biscuit dough: flaky, buttery and irresistible. It takes these dumplings to another level of comfort.
  • Apple pie filling: store-bought filling makes this recipe so easy and it’s delicious.
  • Brown sugar: Sweetens the bottoms and tops of the dumplings with just the right amount of sweetness.
  • Cinnamon: gives these dumplings the perfect amount of spice.
  • Unsalted butter: to give a buttery flavor inside the dumpling.
  • Coarse or granulated sugar: to sprinkle the tops of these dumplings

HOW TO MAKE EASY APPLE DUMPLINGS

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F and spray a muffin tin with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. Unwrap refrigerated biscuit dough and cut each biscuit in half lengthwise. You will have a total of 16 biscuit dough halves. Press each half down with your palm to form disks.
  3. Place 8 of the biscuit dough halves in the muffin tin, pressing down on each half so the dough covers the bottom of the tin. Place in the oven and bake for 3 minutes.
  4. In the meantime, chop up the apple pie filling into small pieces.
  5. Place a small pad of butter (about 1/4 teaspoon), a pinch of cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon of brown sugar into the bottom of each biscuit. Fill each biscuit with about 1 tablespoon of apple pie filling and then add more butter, cinnamon and brown sugar to the top of the filling.
  6. Cover the dumplings with the remaining biscuit halves and pinch the edges together as best as you could. Using a sharp knife, prick a small hole at the top of each biscuit and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
